Colour The Night Winter Festival

Thursday 14th July 2016

Colour the night with Art, Music and Food.

Thursday 14th July from 5.30-9pm in Rotorua’s CBD

Colour the Night is a one night event for local arts and cultural groups and organisations to open their doors for a cross-promoted arts night out to bring the public into arts spaces and celebrate Rotorua’s rich variety of culture.

For one night we want to be filling all participating places with art, music, dance, fun, laughter and food. It is a great chance for local arts and cultural groups and organisations to showcase what they are doing over winter. This event is also for locals and visitors to explore central Rotorua for a night through an artistic lens. There will be lots of things to see, new things to try and lots of people to meet.

The Rotorua Museum, the Blue Baths, the Rotorua Night Market, The Arts Village, The Art Space, the Rotorua Night Market and Rotorua Children’s Art House have all confirmed that their spaces will be open for the night.

These spaces will not only show off what they are doing, but also host organisations, groups and individuals for the evening, whether it is artists, musicians, dancers or amazing cuisine.

Lots of individuals and groups will be showing their talents for the night AND the art, music and performance on the night will be FREE, so grab your friends, family, coat, hat and scarf and come along to check it out!

Where is it?

Exciting art, acts and activities will be happening at the following sites: the Rotorua Night Market, the Arts Village, the Blue Baths, Rotorua Museum, the Gardener’s Cottage and Band Rotunda in the Government Gardens, and Te Runanga Tea Rooms!

Heartland Classics Concert by the New Zealand String Quartet

Wednesday 10th August 2016

Heartland Classics - Rotorua

Presented by the New Zealand String Quartet

Wednesday 10th August 2016, 6:00pm

Our Heartland Classics tour features two irresistible programmes including finely crafted quartets by Haydn and Mozart; Schubert’s brief but intense Quartettsatz; two of Dvorak’s short, descriptive Cypresses; Mendelssohn’s exuberant Quartet no 3 in D; and Dvorak’s optimistic American quartet. We’ll also introduce you to recent works by Gareth Farr and Gillian Whitehead: Gareth’s Te Tai-O-Rehua describes the turbulent waters of the Tasman Sea, while Gillian’s Poroporoaki imitates the sounds of Maori instruments, which in turn imitate the sounds of nature.

We are delighted to be visiting Rotorua as part of our Heartland Classics national tour, and look forward to presenting Programme 2.

Programme 2
Mozart: String Quartet No. 16 in E flat, K.428
Gillian Whitehead: Poroporoaki

Dexter's Amazing African Adventure

Wednesday 28th September - Sunday 9th October 2016

Were excited to announce the return of ‘Dexter’. After a successful season of Dexter’s Deep Sea Discovery, which won the 2015 Playmarket Award. Critically acclaimed writers Jess Sayer and Darlene Mohekey are bringing you a new adventure for the Spring school holidays!

Dexter loves animals. And he loves visiting the zoo.

In fact, sometimes he wishes he could live there. So when a bratty baboon convinces him to swap places for the night, Dexter doesn’t need to think twice.

But his wild night out isn’t quite what he bargained for …

Dexter soon learns that something bad is happening in Africa. Something really bad. Animals are being hunted by a dangerous poacher and if no one helps, pretty soon there will be no animals left.

Dexter knows that he must do everything he can to stop this poacher in his tracks!

With the help of his furry friends, Dexter is magically transported to the plains of Africa, on a super silly safari that will test every ounce of his courage.

Don’t miss this crazy show full of Hip-Hop Hippos, Elegant Elephants and Flaptastic Flamingos! Enjoy non-stop, hilarious Pantomime fun for the whole family in the September school holidays!

Review from Kelly Makiha - the Daily Post 2015

"From the moment the fabulously talented Jason Chasland burst on to the stage as Crabulous in a hilarious scene arguing with Siri on his phone, the sold-out audience was won over.
"So parents, grandparents and other caregivers, stop putting up with grisly bored children and book your tickets."
